Cape Town Mayor welcomes news of no additional lockdown measures, encourages travellers to visit Cape Town
28 November 2021
Statement by Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis
I welcome President Ramaphosa’s measured and sensible announcement this evening that there will be no additional restrictions in place, and the commitment to talk to foreign governments about reconsidering their ill-considered bans on travel to South Africa.
It is also great to hear the announcement that UK residents will still be able to come to South Africa, as per the announcement earlier today from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
The absence of local restrictions means South Africans need not change their plans to travel to Cape Town in December. The Mother City is ready to welcome them, both local and foreign visitors. Cape Town has put all the necessary Covid safety measures in place to welcome back visitors to our wonderful city.
With the efficacy of vaccines having been shown over the past year, especially in preventing serious illness, we have identified the means to beat the virus and limit its impact on our society. We encourage everyone to be vaccinated to help us get through this and thrive again.
